Gustavo Petro recommends Colombians not to buy dollars – Government – Politics

In the middle of dollar rise once morest the Colombian pesoGustavo Petro recommended people in Colombia not to buy the US currencysince he anticipates that when people resell it, that coin will be worth less than it is today.

“To those who are buying dollars in Colombia today, with the greatest respect I have to announce that, when they put them up for sale once more, they will be worth less at that time. Be careful! Do not lose your money,” the president-elect recommended on Monday.

As context, the United States currency closed the day on Monday with an average price of 4.513,69 pesos, which represented an increase of 125.42 pesos compared to the Representative Market Rate (TRM), which for today stands at 4,388.27 pesos.

In fact, this Monday, the president Ivan Duke He also referred to the foreign exchange market and proposed an action to take into account.

“It is not up to me to criticize at this time, what I believe is that certainty must be given and that is urgent to reassure the foreign exchange market,” said the current leader of the Executive in Colombia.

In this sense, it is worth remembering the words of José Antonio Ocampo, Minister of Finance appointed by Petro, a few days ago in an interview with EL PAÍS of Spain. There, Ocampo referred to the devaluation of the peso and drew a parallel with the “fall” of the euro.

“It’s an international trend. Isn’t the euro falling too? We are part of that trend,” he said.
