The president of ColombiaGustavo Petro once once more addressed his intention to create a National Constituent Assembly and outlined the points that should be included in said proposal, with which, according to him, he does not seek to change the constitution.
“It is not necessarily a Constituent Assembly, it is to bring into constitutional canon the national agreement that was not contemplated in 1991,” said Petro in his X account in which He also developed the seven items that must be considered in this action.
Petro’s ideal
As a first point, the president contemplates the “Implementation of the peace agreement on agrarian reformterritorial transformation and truth”.
Secondly and thirdly, he pointed out that the country’s legislation must be adapted to the climate crisis that the world is going through, and a “new judicial order” that will seek to prioritize “public investment in drinking water and environmental sanitation.”
The fourth point refers to Political and justice reformand the fifth highlights the “immediate guarantees of universal rights to health, pensions and free public education.”
Finally, sixth and seventh place are linked to a new work statute“social forgiveness, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition to achieve lasting peace,” says The viewer.
The society
The head of state also pointed out that the population should suggest other proposals that they would like to see considered in the Constituent Assembly, in order to the needs of Colombians are heard and it is they who decide.
“Constituent power is to allow society to express itself and decide for itself through constituent assembly, constitutional assembly or constituent referendum“, wrote.
So far, the Colombian president’s proposal has not been applauded by much of civil society, as those who oppose him consider it a threat, as well as a way in which the president seeks to reactivate re-election.
