Gustavo Dudamel was awarded the honorary title of “Buddy of Barcelona”

The Plenary Session of Barcelona Metropolis Council unanimously authorized the honorary title of “Buddy of Barcelona” for Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel for his defence of equality and the struggle towards poverty, his musical contribution and his ties to the Catalan capital.

Gustavo Dudamel (Barquisimeto, 1981) was appointed musical director of the Simón Bolívar Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela on the age of 18 and in 2004 he received the inaugural Bamberger Symphoniker Gustav Mahler competitors, a milestone that catapulted him internationally.

All through his life he has demonstrated an important social dedication, with solidarity actions such because the creation of the Dudamel Basis in 2012 with the intention of increasing entry to music and the humanities and providing instruments and alternatives to youngsters and younger folks.

He’s at the moment the conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony and the Simón Bolívar Symphony, and in recent times he has carried out on the Palacio de la Música Catalana, the Gran Teatro del Liceu and the Barcelona Auditorium.

The Barcelona Metropolis Council award has honoured, amongst others, the painter Roy Lichtenstein, the previous president of the European Fee Jacques Delors, the activist Rigoberta Menchú and the singer Bruce Springsteen.
