London/Vienna – It was the predicted European record: Gustav Klimt’s “Lady with a Fan” achieved the highest price to date for a work of art auctioned in Europe at a Sotheby’s auction in London in the evening at 74 million pounds (around 86 million euros). After a ten-minute bidding war, the “Lady with a Fan” replaced Giacometti’s sculpture “Walking Man I” as the record holder, which also changed hands at Sotheby’s for 65 million pounds in 2010.
