Gurman: New Mac Pro to be released after WWDC23; next Mac Studio will have the “M3” chip

After sharing some information about upcoming Apple systems, the journalist Mark Gurmanyes Bloombergsaid during an episode of the podcast The MacRumors Showthat the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon is not expected to be featured at WWDC23.

According to the journalist, even with this delay, the new generation of Apple’s most powerful computer will still arrive this year. The imminence of its launch, by the way, would have made the company postpone a new generation of Mac Studio which, in turn, should not have a variant of the M2 family precisely so as not to cannibalize the Pro model. Thus, the prediction is that the model will jump straight to the “M3” generation.

As highlighted by 9to5Mac, the Mac Pro is a product that has been largely forgotten in Apple’s product line, especially after the launch of Mac Studio. At the time (more than a year ago), the company’s senior vice president of hardware, John Ternus, said a new Mac Pro was for “another day” — and indeed it is. A version of the machine with an “M2 Extreme” chip began to be developed, but ended up cancelled.

As for the highly speculated 15-inch MacBook Air, the journalist stated that the original plan was to launch the computer last year. That is, it is possible that the cycle of upgrades for the 13″ and 15″ models may follow different paths, considering that the new version will still be launched with the M2 chip. It remains unclear, however, how Apple will make this possible.

Finally, Gurman also commented on another highly anticipated product: Apple’s alleged virtual/augmented reality headset, expected precisely for WWDC23. He opined that the “on air” typing feature really should be released, despite the less-than-ideal performance.

The battery autonomy of the device, in turn, should remain at around two hours for several generations of the product, as with the Apple Watch which, since its launch, has maintained the same 18 hours of use with a single charge (with the exception of the Ultra model, of course).

So let’s wait.
