A suspect got out of a vehicle and fired 21 shots in the air outside a café-bar in Charleroi last night around 2:45 a.m., the Charleroi prosecutor’s office confirmed on Saturday morning. The shots did not cause any injuries. The author has not yet been identified. The federal police is in charge of the investigation.

Several local Charleroi police teams set up a security perimeter on Boulevard Tirou in Charleroi during the night from Friday to Saturday around 2:45 a.m.

A man, who got out of a vehicle parked just in front of the establishment “Harpers”, fired in the air. “He only shot in the air, creating a panic on the spot, before getting back into the vehicle to flee”said the Charleroi prosecutor’s office in the morning, informed of the facts.

No injuries are reported. Twenty-one casings were found at the scene. “The author of the shots would have used a Kalashnikov-type weapon.”

The federal police have taken over the investigation. The lab is to go to the scene this Saturday morning. “An exploitation of the many surveillance cameras of the City present on the spot might make it possible to identify the suspect and the vehicle used”, concluded the judicial authority.
