Gunsan-type job representative company Myongshin China and Electric Truck Development Promotion Comprehensive

“Planning stage for development… I can’t see that 3,000~4,000 units will occupy domestic home screens”
If it goes to the mass production stage, it is produced at the old GM Korea plant in Gunsan… First domestic production case by a Chinese company

Myungshin, a representative company of ‘Gunsan-type jobs’ in Jeollabuk-do, is working with Geely Motors, the No. 1 Chinese private car maker, to develop an electric truck.

Myungshin, an auto parts company, announced on the 23rd that it had signed an agreement with the commercial division of Geely on the 21st through a video conference to agree on a basic framework for electric vehicle development plan, manufacturing and sales.

According to this agreement, these companies will promote domestic certification and development of vehicles suitable for the market.

If it goes beyond the development of electric trucks to the mass production stage, production is expected to take place at the former GM Korea plant in Gunsan, which was acquired by Myungshin.

In this case, it is expected to be the first case for a Chinese automaker to produce an electric vehicle in Korea.

Vice President Ho-Seok Park Myung-Shin explained, “(The agreement) is still in the planning stage for development,” and “The content is to develop models together, sell them in China if possible, and sell them in Korea.”

Regarding concerns regarding Geely’s entry into the domestic automobile market, Vice President Park said, “This segment itself has a maximum of 3,000 to 4,000 vehicles, but it can’t be said that (China) is occupying the home market.” Since there is a market that exists, please view it as a positive content that we will try to do it in that area.”

Apart from this electric truck agreement with Myungshin, Geely’s entry into the domestic automobile market is already visible.

On the 21st of last month, Renault Motors and Geely of France reached a final agreement on a mutual cooperation plan to launch a joint model between the two companies for the Korean market.

According to the agreement, a new eco-friendly car jointly developed by the two companies will be produced at Renault Samsung Motors’ Busan plant in 2024 and released in Korea.

In addition, Polestar, a Swedish luxury electric vehicle brand established in 2017 by Volvo Cars and Geely Holdings, officially launched its first pure electric vehicle, Polestar 2, in Korea last month following formalizing its entry into Korea at the end of last year.
