ISTANBUL (AP) — Two gunmen took seven hostages at a Procter & Gamble factory in northwest Turkey on Thursday, local media reported, in an apparent protest against the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

The Turkish press published a photo of one of the apparent attackers at the factory: a man, gun in hand, with what appears to be a belt with explosives.

The private DHA news agency reported that the attackers entered the main building of the factory in Gebze, Kocaeli province, at around 3 pm and took seven people hostage.

The action, he added, is in protest of the loss of Palestinian lives in Gaza. Some 27,000 Palestinians have been killed in the coastal enclave, according to the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Health Ministry, since Israel launched its offensive on October 7.
