Gangs have been terrorizing parts of northern Nigeria for over a decade, targeting villagers, commuters, schoolchildren and students, kidnapping for ransom, and also frequently committing looting and killings.
The gunmen attacked the Buda community around midnight on Monday, shooting sporadically, residents said.
Kidnappings often take place in remote villages.
Lawal Abdullahi, who was not in the village when the raid took place, found that his wife was among the residents who were abducted by the thugs. “We are waiting for them to call to demand a ransom, as usual,” Mr Abdullahi told Reuters by telephone.
The village is regarding 160 kilometers from the community of Kuriga, where the kidnapping of the students took place last week.
There was no response when Reuters tried to contact security officials in Kaduna state for comment.
