There have been two shootings in the United States in recent days, one of which occurred on Saturday, September 7, in Kentucky. Police are searching for an “armed and dangerous” 32-year-old man who shot “numerous people” on a highway this afternoon.

On Interstate 75, near exit 49, the alleged suspect began shooting at vehicles traveling in the area from a wooded area or overpass in the late afternoon for unknown reasons.

According to police, the possible suspect was identified as Joseph A. Couch, who fled in a blue Ford pickup truck with a silver roof. Authorities asked the public to call a hotline if they have any information about Couch.

The section of the motorway was closed by local police and traffic was diverted. It is estimated that there were between four and six victims, but it is not known whether there were any deaths or only injuries.

The image that circulated shows several cars parked or stopped in the middle of a highway with their doors open. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear asked on his X account to “pray for all those involved.”

High school shooting

A few days ago, in Georgia, a 14-year-old teenager was the author of a shooting at his high school that left two students and two teachers dead and nine others injured.

Using a semi-automatic rifle, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (OIG) identified the shooter at Apalachee High School as Colt Gray.

According to information shared by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the teenager and his father were questioned in 2023 for an online investigation into threats of a school shooting.

The agency said it received anonymous tips in May 2023 about those threats and that its investigation led to a “13-year-old male” who “is the same subject in custody in connection with today’s shootings at Apalachee High School.”

According to the FBI, there was no “probable cause” for an arrest or enforcement action at the time.
