According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (the major script), as of 6:00 pm today, a total of 40 people died due to heavy rain, including 1 Sejong, 16 Chungbuk (13 Osong), 4 Chungnam, and 19 Gyeongbuk.
In addition, one additional body was found this evening in a farmland near the Osong underpass, bringing the total number of deaths to 41.
There are 9 missing people, including 1 in Busan and 8 in Gyeongbuk. A total of 34 people were injured, including 13 in Chungbuk.
The government dispatched an emergency investigation team to Gyeongbuk, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Sejong starting yesterday, and began work to declare them as special disaster areas. We will also promote support for special subsidies for disaster safety.
As it was pointed out that the Osong underground train could not prevent the disaster due to poor response, the police and the Office for Government Policy Coordination launched an investigation and inspection to determine responsibility.
The Korea Meteorological Administration advised, “Please refrain from going out as there will be strong rain of 30 to 60 mm per hour, up to 70 mm or more, depending on the location until the morning of tomorrow (18th).”
