The minor succumbs to his injuries following the gun attack at a German school. The suspect was, however, arrested.
In the southern German city of Offenburg there was an unexpected attack among young school colleagues. After a gun attack, the minor succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital, police and public prosecutors in the Baden-Württemberg city said on Thursday. The alleged perpetrator, who was the same age, was arrested in a classroom following the attack – investigators assume there was a “personal motive” for the crime.
The suspect entered a classroom at lunchtime, approached his classmate who was sitting at the time of the crime and then shot him at least once with a handgun, investigators said. “As a result, he suffered the most serious injuries,” it said in a statement. The police then received several emergency calls.
The school was largely cordoned off. The victim was taken to a hospital following the attack. There was initially no information regarding the details of the injury. The underage suspect, a German, is being examined forensically, the investigators said. The motive for the attack is likely to be personal. As a police spokesman near the crime scene added, initial findings indicate that there was a previous relationship between the alleged perpetrator and his victim.
The public prosecutor requested an arrest warrant for manslaughter. The suspect is scheduled to be brought before the responsible investigating judge on Thursday for an arrest warrant to be issued, the investigative authority said.
According to police, around 180 students were taken out of school. The young people were looked following by trained staff and were then able to go to their parents, the police said. Offenburg is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Just on Wednesday, two boys in a school in Hamburg threatened a teacher with some kind of firearm, triggering a large-scale police operation. After four hours, the emergency services were able to give the all-clear. Almost at the same time there was also an alarm at another school regarding a threat situation. Here too, an educational force was threatened. In this context, a short time later, four boys aged 11, 12, 12 and 14 and later a 13-year-old were arrested and a total of three suspected toy weapons were seized.
