Gulf States Unite Against Netanyahu’s Incendiary Remarks, Threaten Repercussions

The Cooperation Council wrote in a post on the “X” platform: “His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council expresses the Cooperation Council’s full support for the Arab Republic of Egypt against the provocative statements issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aimed at distorting Egypt’s image and offending its leading and major role in the region, and its clear and evident efforts in mediating to resolve the crisis in the Gaza Strip.”

The Secretary-General stressed that Egypt has a pivotal role in enhancing regional and international stability, through its continuous mediation efforts to achieve calm and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people since the outbreak of the crisis.

He stressed the GCC’s complete rejection of such irresponsible statements, which do not serve peace in the region, but rather contribute to increasing tension and aggravating the situation.

He stressed the need for Israel to adhere to international principles and signed agreements, as well as to stop its aggressive approach in Gaza and all Palestinian territories.

The Secretary-General concluded his statement by renewing the GCC countries’ steadfast support for Egypt in its tireless efforts to enhance security and stability in the region, and to work together to achieve the lofty goals that unite Arab and Islamic countries in the face of common challenges.

Earlier, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Netanyahu told his Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, that Egypt and the United States had approved his maps, and the Defense Minister responded that it was also important for Sinwar to approve, according to the Hebrew newspaper.

An Egyptian source close to the ongoing negotiations said that Netanyahu is trying to bypass his internal crisis, represented by his repeated clashes with the Minister of Defense, army leaders, and security services, in addition to the ongoing escalation with the opposition and the families of prisoners, by fabricating lies about Egypt’s acceptance of his plans, which Cairo has become aware of and is dealing with in a manner consistent with its national security and its position on the Palestinian issue.

The White House announced that it would not argue with Netanyahu about what he said about the Philadelphi corridor, stressing through John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council, that “the proposal and mediation include removing Israeli army forces from densely populated areas, including the Philadelphi corridor, and Israel has agreed to that.”
