The Tactical Report, an intelligence website that specializes in armaments deals, reported that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi succeeded in convincing several leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to establish a partnership to manufacture air defense systems in Egypt.
The site added that many American, European and Chinese defense companies are ready to cooperate and invest in this partnership.
The Gulf Cooperation Council countries will provide financial financing to Egypt for its manufacturing program for a joint medium-range air defense system, as Egypt started this project with a successful experience, as it was able to design and manufacture the “Amoun” air defense system, which was later purchased by Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman in the years 2000-2004.
Egypt has been proceeding steadily in the steps of this project for several years and has been planning for it since the announcement of the first Egyptian-made radar (ESR-32 A) at the Egypt Defense and Military Industries Exhibition “EDEX 2018”, which surprised everyone during this exhibition as the first fully designed two-dimensional radar 100% Egyptian hands under the supervision of civilian and military research centers. Then it was followed by the appearance of the latest version of it (ESR-32 B) at the Egypt Defense and Military Industries Exhibition “EDEX 2021”, which was held in Egypt from November 29 to December 2, 2021, with the announcement of a more advanced 3D version that is expected to appear during the upcoming exhibition. “EDEX 2023”.
It is expected that Egypt will repeat the successful experience of producing the Egyptian Ammon air defense system in cooperation with the Italian company “Contraves”, but this time with another foreign partner, who may be Belarusian, Chinese, or one of the reputable European companies.
Egyptian research to develop an Egyptian air defense system is not new, but it has already started several years ago in the Egyptian development centers with the testing of a number of prototypes. It will greatly accelerate these steps and will help in the presence of a strong foreign partner that provides the latest technologies required in order for the system to be at the highest and most modern technological level that exists in the world today.
