A rescue operation has been underway since Saturday afternoon (03/08) in the Gulf of Corinth, as a sailing vessel is sailing unruly.
According to initial information, there were six people on board the sailing vessel, including the captain, who, according to reports, was swept away by the wave and is missing. A major operation has been launched to locate and rescue him.
The engine, the sails and the strong wind
As Alpha reports, the engine went out and the captain opened the boat’s sails, as a result of which – due to the wind – he was swept away and disappeared into the water.
Strong winds are blowing in the wider area, while none of the other passengers know how to handle the boat, consequently sailing unruly in the Gulf of Corinth.
A team of the Coast Guard and private individuals with their own boats have rushed to the scene to assist in the search and rescue operation.
In fact, the contribution of a helicopter has also been requested, as the captain of the sailboat has – so far – given no signs of life.
