League 2 (7th day). Guingamp – Caen: 3-1
There was another spectacle at Guingamp, in this last match of the 7th day, this Monday. Goals, enthusiasm and a victory which places the Costarmoricans in 3rd place in Ligue 2, just two points behind the leader, Paris FC.
Siwe strong head
The Guingampais did not do everything well during this game. But they acted rather than reacted, to begin with. Far from the disappointments experienced against Annecy (2-2) and especially at Paris FC (0-2). Established for the first time this season, Ghrieb placed his corner on Siwe’s head, higher than the three Caennais who were supposed to be watching him (1-0, 6′). The EAG striker’s fourth goal, the skull’s third this season.
Leading from the start was a good idea. But it was still necessary to protect this precious nest egg. The Guingampais did not succeed, they even made a gross careless mistake by leaving Mendy absolutely alone, receiving M’Vila’s free kick (1-1, 51′).
Picard, premiere
But this new version of Guingamp likes to attack above all else. Despite a timid start to the second half, that’s what he did when Picard went off with the ball to execute his special, this shot curling into the opposite net (2-1, 67′). His first goal of the season breathed life into this already joyful match.
Barely coming into play, Luvambo came to extinguish Caen’s last hopes (3-1, 78′). These three new goals put En Avant back at the top of Ligue 2 attacks (15 goals), tied with Messins, which says a lot about their beautiful 4-4-2 with beautiful designs.
Certainly, the match would have been completely different if the Guingampais had converted their five clear chances in the first half, notably when Ghrieb found the post (37′). He could also have gone the wrong way if Hemia had been sent off (44′), not far from a second yellow card after a first warning which had been severely given to him (29′). But the good intentions of the Bretons have been rewarded and there is a form of justice in that. There is something refreshing about seeing this team come from behind, putting speed into their sequences, using their freedom and constantly looking for spaces that destabilize their counterparts.
