Guineans Threatened with Expulsion to Belgium: Common Ground and Agreement Reached with Belgian Authorities

CONAKRY- This is rather good news for undocumented Guineans threatened with expulsion to Belgium.

The Guinean and Belgian authorities have just found common ground on their case. According to the latest developments in this case, the theory of possible expulsion is now excluded.

This was announced by the Guinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans established abroad after a meeting he had with the ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Guinea, this Friday, December 22, 2023.

After several days of consultations and diplomatic meetings, Dr Morissada Kouyaté announced that he had reached an agreement with the Belgian authorities through Willem Van de Voorde. The files of undocumented Guineans in Belgium will be handled on a case-by-case basis, with respect for their dignity.

“There was a little misunderstanding last week around our compatriots who were threatened with being sent back by a charter. But, it is clear and clear that we respect each other. Guinea respects the dignity of Belgians and vice versa. So our compatriots who are there (in Belgium, editor’s note) their problems will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis so that we can make good decisions which will not affect our bilateral relations. Everything is well marked, we understood each other and I think that Guinea will protect the Belgians here. And it will be reciprocal”specified Dr. Morissada Kouyaté.
