Guinea-Bissau will be looking for their first triumph in a CAN final stage, with coach Baciro Candé warning of the players’ inexperience in the competition.
Baciro Candé previewed Guinea-Bissau’s fourth consecutive participation in the CAN and analyzed the games they will play in group A once morest hosts Côte d’Ivoire, on Saturday, once morest Equatorial Guinea, on the 18th, and Nigeria, on the 22.
“Guinea-Bissau will try to make a positive statement. We will do everything we can to at least win one game and make our country proud”, said Candé, who also aims to advance to the group stage.
Despite being a new team, the Guinean coach is hopeful regarding the team’s performance, recognizing that it does not have players who play in the Champions League, like other teams.
“70% of the players who go to this CAN are all new, they have never participated in a CAN, they don’t know what the CAN is. We have 15 new players who have never been to CAN”, he made a point of highlighting.
He explained that the Seleção has been undergoing a slow reformulation since he took office, he also pointed to the “gap” between players, mentioning that other teams have members used to competing every three days, while those from Guinea-Bissau play a once a week.
