In its bulletin published on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the National Meteorological Agency (ANM) informs that intermittent rains of varying intensity are expected throughout Guinea, from September 24 to 26.

“Upper Guinea and the coastal zone will be most affected on the 25th, and Forest Guinea on the 26th, with a moderate risk of flooding in vulnerable areas,” the Agency said.

It also warns of the potential impacts of these rains on the health of the population and homes. In terms of health, there is a risk of water pollution and the proliferation of certain waterborne diseases.

Unsuitable homes could be flooded, and landslides are to be feared. Concerning transport, the ANM mentions risks of road slides, reduced visibility, prolonged waits for ships, as well as flooding of bridges and landslides. As for public works, deterioration of roads and a slowdown in construction sites are anticipated. In the agricultural sector, flooding of fields is to be expected.

To protect themselves from these natural disasters, the ANM calls on citizens to be vigilant, to limit travel in the event of storms and floods, and invites them to regularly check with it for possible updates to the alert.
