Michelin stars for the Sunshine State. The jury awarded a total of 14 restaurants in Miami, Orlando and Tampa with one star as well as the Joel Robuchon’s work shop in Miami with two stars.
The award of stars not only lifts Florida into new culinary spheres. “The introduction of the Michelin Guide to Florida is a great thing for our state,” said Dana Young, President and CEO of Visit Florida. “Our cuisine is a big part of who we are and what we offer our visitors. We know that Michelin’s presence will take the Florida vacation experience to new heights and will have an incredible impact on our tourism brand.”
“As you can see, Miami, Orlando and Tampa have a lot to offer international foodies and wine lovers,” explains Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide. “The talented chefs, together with their dedicated teams, create culinary experiences that are only surpassed by the amazing attractions in each city. Highlighting glittering Miami, fabled Orlando and stunning Tampa, this guide’s first-ever Florida pick offers a unique blend of international cuisine and Florida flavors. Local foodies and travelers alike will enjoy exploring these fascinating and rich Florida culinary destinations.”
This is how the jury explained their two-star rating of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami, headed by Alain Verzeroli, Director of Culinary Operations, with the words: “The menu offers both smaller portions for extended tasting and main courses; but we recommend the seasonal prix fixe menu. A superb menu opener, the French Baked Bread Basket is served before culinary delights such as seared scallops with roasted spices. The restaurant with its large counter and open kitchen fits perfectly into the ambience of the Design District.”
Additionally 29 Bib Gourmands awards
The jury also selected 29 restaurants in Florida that are worthy of the Bib Gourmand designation. They offer top quality food at great value for money. At these restaurants, visitors can enjoy two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for under US$49. Nineteen restaurants in the Miami area received Bib Gourmand awards, seven more in the Orlando area and three in the Tampa area.
In addition to the Stars and Bib Gourmand awards, the judges announced two other honors: The Sommelier of the Year award, presented by Wine Access, was presented to Victoria James and her team at Cote Miami. The Exceptional Cocktails Award was presented to Ruben Rolon and his teams at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami and Le Jardinier Miami.
