Guide: Connect iPad to TV: wirelessly or via HDMI

The iPad’s display scores with a razor-sharp resolution and rich contrasts. Sometimes it can still make sense to transfer the screen content of the iPad to the TV. If you want to connect the iPad to the TV, you can do this both via HDMI cable and wirelessly with AirPlay.

Connect iPad to TV with cable

Only a few simple steps are required to establish a connection between the iPad and the TV via cable. This makes sense for TVs that are not yet online. However, an iPad only has one by default USB-C slot or a Lightning connector.

To connect both devices via HDMI cable, you need one Adapter from HDMI to Lightning connector or from USB-C to HDMI. You then connect both devices with a cable and select the HDMI input as the source on the TV.

Wireless connection between iPad and TV via WLAN

If you have an internet-enabled TV or Apple TV, you can connect the iPad to the TV without using a cable. For this you either use the directly Apple transmission standard AirPlay or the Apple TV app.

Both the TV (or the Apple TV Box) and the iPad have to register for this are in the same WLAN. Once both devices are switched on, proceed as follows:

  1. If the television supports AirPlay or is connected to Apple TV, open a video on the iPad in the Apple TV app or other compatible application and tap on the AirPlay icon there.
  2. In the selection you now choose directly the AirPlay-enabled TV or the Apple TV Box out.
  3. Thereupon a code appears on the TVwhich must now be entered in the iPad for confirmation.
  4. After entering the code, the connection is established and the Cast iPad screen to TV.
  5. To the to end the connection againjust click the AirPlay icon again and choose Disable AirPlay.
