It was on Twitter that the Guerrilla studio announced the closure of its online servers for three games on August 12. The games affected by this shutdown are Killzone: Mercenary, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League.

On August 12, 2022, the online servers for Killzone: Mercenary, Killzone Shadow Fall (including Intercept mode), and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League will be shut down. Online functionality (including online multiplayer modes) will cease on this date. Offline single player modes remain available.

Three games affected

Killzone Mercenary is a PlayStation Vita game that was released in September 2013. In 2020, the servers briefly shut down before being restored, but now it looks like the servers will be shut down for good.

Killzone Shadow Fall is a PlayStation 4 game that was released in November 2013. Last year, the Killzone Shadow Fall website shut down and now it’s the game’s servers’ turn.

RIGS is a VR game on the Playstation 4 which was released in October 2016. In RIGS, you control a double-barreled mech in futuristic custom-built arenas where mechanized combat and sport marry. A very nice game, but which does not compete, of course, with the VR content now available.

This news comes as‘Ubisoft just announced a wave of 15 games shutting down their online servers as early as September earlier this month. If the trend continues, several old games may be affected, including perhaps your favorite game, in order to free up servers for new studio releases.
