During the celebration of the second ordinary meeting 2022 on mental health held in Acapulco, the state advances and successful experiences of different states in the field of mental health and addictions were presented, as well as their strengthening in the first and second level of care. in the consolidation of the merger of the Primary Care Centers for Addictions (UNEME-CAPA) to the Community Center for Mental Health and Addictions (CECOSAMA).
The main objectives of this meeting are to build a country with well-being and historically recognize that mental health is an essential part of the conditions to achieve it, as well as promote the emotional well-being of the Mexican people, as announced by the Secretary of Federal Health, Jorge Carlos Alcocer Varela.
On behalf of the Governor of the State, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, the Secretary of State Health, Aidé Ibarez Castro, expressed that in order to enrich the implementation of this mental health care model, it is important to integrate the area of epidemiology in the community, for the reinforcement of the identification of psychological and psychiatric disorders, as well as the application of strategies that are watershed so that all the states of the country replicate actions that contribute to achieving the objectives in favor of this sector of the population.
There, the federal health secretary, Jorge Carlos Alcocer Varela, in his capacity as president of the Council, said that the results of these meetings will be of direct and practical relevance for the provision of care to people with mental health disorders, in a broader sense and that will contribute to the reorganization of care in general, for which he reiterated that the collaboration of the health authorities of the governments throughout the country must be adjusted to the health services to take into account psychosocial disorders, and that those involved in the organization and provision of mental health services should consider it as an important public health problem.
Right there before the directors and directors of the different institutions that make up the Health sector of the 32 state secretaries and secretaries of health, as well as the technical secretary of Conasabi, María Eugenia Lozano Torres, the Secretary of Health thanked the members of the Legislative Power for the work and approval of the reform to the General Health Law on mental health, for which he endorsed the importance of training 32,000 people who care for mental health and addictions, since this will impact the reduction of problems like suicide; undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, screening in mental health and addictions at the first level and the use of telemedicine.
For his part, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López Gatell Ramírez, indicated that he agrees with the Secretary of Health in Guerrero, in the sense of the urgency of working in a coordinated manner to develop, coordinate and expand community capacities of health and well-being, as well as the implementation of care mechanisms for people suffering from mental health disorders of various kinds to mitigate disability as well as the prevention and elimination of stigma and discrimination of individuals and families.
