The president of MexicoClaudia Sheinbaum, declared this Thursday that she is managing the emergency in the state of Guerrero, after the impact of Hurricane John, which has caused at least 29 deaths and thousands of people affected throughout the country, particularly in the port of Acapulco.
«Today we are going to meet again to make an evaluation. The emergency is being attended to, an evaluation is being made of all the municipalities, towns and colonies (neighborhoods) in Acapulco that are most affected,” the president highlighted during her morning press conference.
Sheinbaum was in Acapulco on Wednesday to inspect the damage caused by Hurricane John, which made landfall on September 23 as a category.
Emergency in Guerrero due to Hurricane John
The president indicated that the main priorities for attention are the restoration of the drinking water service, which has collapsed in Acapulco, as well as the reconstruction of roads and bridges damaged by floods and landslides.
In addition, he mentioned that, once the most affected municipalities have been identified, the Welfare Secretariat will begin to carry out a census.
It will serve all these populations and the Defense is already providing food pantries so that they can have what they need for their food,” he stated.
He also indicated that, in the medium term, Acapulco will have support for its rehabilitation, focusing on the drinking water service, sanitation, and desilting of rivers and banks, in order to prevent future floods.
