[이코노미스트 마켓in 김채영 기자] A new employee at Gucci, an Italian luxury brand, was fired following bragging regarding it by posting a free job gift worth tens of thousands of won on social media.
According to Intheno, an American Internet media outlet, on the 21st (local time), Melanie, an employee of a Gucci store located in Los Angeles, California, USA, posted a video introducing Gucci’s job offer on the video platform ‘TikTok’ earlier this month.
According to the video, Melanie received a gift set worth tens of thousands of won from Gucci, including a luxury bag, belt, three blouses, two pants, loafers, sneakers, and four pairs of socks. It is known that these luxury products given to Melanie by Gucci are not gift sets for individuals, but product promotional uniforms given to employees.
This video of receiving tens of thousands of won worth of Gucci products for free spread quickly on social media and even reached the ears of officials at Gucci headquarters. Eventually, the very next day following posting the video, Melanie received a notice of dismissal according to the headquarters guidelines.
Melanie posted the video even following being fired. Melanie said, “I wasn’t angry with Gucci’s decision.” “When I was offered a job at Gucci, I didn’t like it, but I accepted it for a stable job,” she said.
At the same time, Melanie said, “In fact, I also agreed to quit Gucci,” and “I will build my empire (like the Italian luxury brand Gucci).”
