An assault on a passenger bus in Guatemala the weekend ended with one of the assailants dead and the other wounded. But what caught the most attention was the reaction of the mother of the deceased, who demanded justice, because her son “He just went out to rob.”

“My son got up early to rob the buses, as always, but they killed him,” said the mother of the murdered young man, who demanded justice because her son, identified as Joshua Garciaalias “The Tortolita”, “I didn’t hurt anyone”, “he did not shoot anyone, he only assaulted them”.
García and Vidal Alfredo Barillas Herrera got on an Esmeraldas transport bus on Saturday that came from the Guatemalan municipality of Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, in the department of Escuintla, bound for the Central de Mayoreo (CENMA). But when they tried to rob, one of the passengers who was armed shot at “The Turtle”, who died on the spot. Barillas managed to get off the bus, but when trying to escape from it, his ankle twisted.
“Barillas Herrera, when he got off the bus, observed the units of the National Civil Police and in his attempt to flee he suffered an ankle doubloon, for which medical attention was necessary, with his respective police custody.”, explained the police to the media.
Inside the bus, the police found the body of El Tortolita. The passenger who repelled the assault had already left.
El Tortolita’s mother showed up at the scene and it was there that she complained that they had killed her son who “was only dedicated to assaulting.”
The police confirmed to Guatemalan media such as Soy502 that El Tortolita had a criminal record and had been arrested in the past for the crimes of robbery, possession of drugs for consumption and extortion.
Among the objects seized from Barillas is a special 38-caliber weapon with 5 useful ammunition and a shell.
