Guarantee security in first presidential debate 2024

MEXICO CITY (EFE).— The National Electoral Institute (INE) assured yesterday that everything is ready for the first presidential debate towards the largest elections in the country, next June 2.

“The INE is ready for this first debate,” counselor Carla Humphrey said at a press conference.

The electoral counselor highlighted that in 10 days of work, a forum was set up with a “magnificent production” to broadcast today the first debate between the three candidates for the Presidency, the Morenoist Claudia Sheinbaum and the opponents Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz and Jorge Álvarez Máynez.

In addition, Carla Humphrey said that elements of the Armed Forces and the National Guard will be present, as part of the security strategy.

He pointed out that the number of elements will be changed following the first debate for security reasons and insisted that all guarantees will be available for the security of the presidential candidacies.

“With all normality we are collaborating with the authorities of the Mexican State, in this case to protect this facility where they will be together and with those who will be, one of them, the next president of the Republic,” he indicated.

Claudia was the only candidate who did not attend.

Meanwhile, counselor Carla assured for the first time that the General Council of the INE approved an agreement to force the participation of the three presidential candidates this Sunday, April 7, during the first presidential debate.

“We have not received any signal to the contrary at the representative tables, that has always been what has been communicated, that the three candidates are going to be present in the three presidential debates.”
