Prices that keep on rising. According to Liligo.com data disclosed by The Parisiansoaring air ticket prices continued at the start of the year.

The comparator, which examined in early March the offers for trips scheduled between July 8 and September 4 to the 10 most popular destinations, observed a double-digit increase for six of them, the prize going to Montreal (672 euros round trip, +41%) and Pointe-à-Pitre (968 euros, +41%).

In the end, in the top 10 destinations, only ticket prices to Corsica (-1% for Ajaccio, -2% for Bastia) fell.

The trend is not new. On average in 2022, prices from metropolitan France jumped 21.7% compared to 2021, according to figures from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). With already disparities between long-haul (+14.6%), domestic flights (+15.4%), flights to overseas territories (+20%) and medium-haul (+23.7 %).

A 43.5% increase in the price of plane tickets had even been observed between July 2022 and July 2021. “The soaring prices are permanent, both for low-cost companies and classic companies”, already warned Bruno Gazeau, President of the Federation of Associations of Transport Users (Fnaut).

Imbalance between supply and demand, price of kerosene…

The causes of this double-digit inflation are multiple. First of all, there is the offer from companies which, due to a lack of sufficient staff, are still struggling to meet the strong demand from customers wishing to resume their travel habits following the Covid period.

Added to this, the surge in the cost of kerosene following that of oil since the start of the war in Ukraine. An increase that is difficult to absorb without passing it on to the price of the ticket knowing that kerosene represents between 30 and 45% of the price of the latter depending on the duration of the flight.

Finally, the increase in ticket prices also responds to the need for companies to “restore their accounts and increase their margins” following the difficult Covid years, explained Bruno Gazeau, president of the National Federation of Associations of Transport Users (Fnaut) .
