Two weeks following the release of the first trailer for “Grand Theft Auto VI”, the most anticipated game of the decade, the hype around the Rockstar title continues unabated. Fans of the successful franchise, still eager for the slightest information, meticulously investigate to discover potential new hidden clues. This time, it is in an artwork, a visual of the game, that they think they have unlocked secrets.

Has Rockstar been playing us from the start? However, it is not for lack of having – literally – turned around in all directions the trailer for “GTA VI”, viewed more than 156 million times since it was posted online on December 5, 2023, on YouTube. Dozens of budding investigators scrutinized, dissected and commented on the smallest detail of the studio’s future hit with the star-studded “R”. We thus had the right to a plan by plan decryption; to a theory according to which you have to watch the trailer backwards to better understand the story of Lucia, the main protagonist that you will play; or an exhaustive survey of the animals, vehicles and other elements visible in the video, the duration of which does not exceed 90 seconds.

But there is so much anticipation around the next “GTA”, the release of which was announced in 2025, exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, that fans are perpetually looking for new clues. After spending a long time looking at the first images of the new episode to come, in recent days they have refocused their attention on the artwork of the game. By searching, cunning Internet users claim to have got their hands on one of the secrets Rockstar Games’ best kept.

We explain: by going to the New York publisher’s website, they realized that there was an illustration drawing (see above) to the original artwork, with the difference that the panorama is wider and no decoration is “cut”. By digging a little, they discovered that the visual was made up of three parts. The first solid color shows Lucia and Jason, the Bonnie and Clyde-style couple, posing in front of a car. A second part reveals two palm trees in relief. So far, nothing incredible. But where it gets interesting is when you look at the background. We can see an artery of “Vice City”, a fictional city inspired by Miami. A street that looks like Ocean Drive, with its art deco style hotels.

A trailer in September 2024?

On this artwork, in the bottom right corner, we can see a poster hanging on a wall. When you zoom in as much as possible in the image and modify the colorimetry, the contours of a map appear, a map in video game jargon. According to an leak massive 90 videos of an alpha version of the game, for which a hacker was sentenced, Thursday, December 21, to live in a secure hospital until further notice.

In addition to this glimpse of the probable future map of “GTA VI”, the visual would contain another secret. A user of Reddit 27guy believes he has solved the riddle behind the bullet holes, six in number, present on Lucia and Jason’s car. Thanks to Morse code (see the X below), he thinks he has figured out the release date of the next trailer. The Take-Two Interactive subsidiary was preparing to unveil the second trailer on September 1, 2024, nine months following the very first.

A theory that may seem far-fetched, but the studio which is also behind the “Red Dead Redemption” franchise is used to openly trolling fans. The developer would have teased, from June 2023, the release of the trailer for “GTA VI” by launching a t-shirt on GTA Online, its online multiplayer mode. The item of clothing in question bore an enigmatic number “12523”, corresponding – with hindsight – to the date of December 5, 2023, the day the famous trailer was broadcast. Proof, if necessary, that Rockstar Games leaves nothing to chance. Enough to boost the imagination of the players.
