GTA VI: a massive leak reveals the images of the game, Rockstar Games says it is “extremely disappointed”

The video game publisher Rockstar Games (GTA, Red Dead Redemption…) was the victim of a major hack on Monday, September 19. Several excerpts from his future title Grand Theft Auto VI have been revealed online by a hacker.

This Monday, September 19 will remain etched in the annals of video games by what looks like one of the most important “leaks” in history. The publisher Rockstar Games, behind games like GTA and Red Dead Redemption, has confirmed that it has been the victim of a piracy.

The massive leak today hinted at dozens of gameplay excerpts (game sequence, editor’s note) from the studio’s future title: GTA VI. One of the most anticipated games of the next few years. Almost 10 years following the release of GTA V real cash machine, still today, from Rockstar Games.

“We were recently affected by an intrusion into our computer systems by a third party who illegally downloaded confidential information, including video recordings of the next Grand Theft Auto. For the time being, we do not foresee any consequences on our online gaming services, nor on the long-term developments of our current projects”, confirmed the firm in a communiquéa few hours following the hack.

If this leak delights fans of the license who were impatiently awaiting news of the title, the developers see their work unveiled in a hurry. “We are extremely disappointed that the details of our next game have been shared with you in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto will continue as planned and we are more committed than ever to delivering an experience that truly exceeds expectations. our players,” said Rockstar Games.

ransom note

The hacker notably shared images of the first female character that it will be possible to embody. Car racing, robberies, sets… all the elements that made the success of the license have been unveiled. If the videos were quickly censored at Rockstar’s request, some are still available online.

Teapotuberhacker, the alleged pirate, even mentioned with the publisher his desire to “to negotiate” by demanding a ransom so as not to reveal more stolen content, in particular the game code. Such a leak presents a considerable risk for Rockstar, which will surely have to postpone the release of the title in order to secure its game as much as possible and avoid jeopardizing the future GTA VI when it is officially released.
