On their various anniversaries, many expected GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption to return through remasters. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be… or at least not for a while.

GTA Trilogy, the ugly duckling

Remained for a long time at the stage of rumors, the remasters of Grand Theft Auto IV and of Red Dead Redemption recently came back into the news thanks to a very particular insider: this one affirmed a few days ago only that the projects were indeed in the pipes of Rockstar… before being visibly canceled due to the poor reception of GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition. A painful hallway noise for fans, those who hoped to see their favorite game on modern platforms.

History to corroborate this information, it is the well-known site my box who just added his little grain of salt: this one confirms via its sources that Rockstar has indeed reviewed its plans and would have suspended the redesigns of GTA 4 et Red Dead Redemptiondue to criticism of the GTA Trilogy. But that’s not all: the firm would also and above all be focused on a project… which we are all eagerly awaiting.

A priority called GTA 6

Still relying on its sources, Kotaku actually claims that Rockstar is currently focused on the future, which is the all-new Grand Theft Auto. Its development was formalized months ago now and it seems to be in full swing, especially the time that “audiences forget failed ports of last year’s GTA trilogy”.

In fact, the remasters of GTA 4 et Red Dead Redemption would be well, currently, totally “set aside”… but a hope remains. Kotaku then clarifies that these might still come out one day, but only following GTA 6 be out! This gives us a good leg up, since the latter seems to take an infinite time to refine and that some are not talking regarding a release before 2024 or 2025. In short, see you at the next episode.
