Grünau youngster dreams of professional business – Walser get replacement from SAK

In recent years, some kickers from the Salzburg regional league have made the leap into professional football. With Grünau substitute goalie Tim Saller, the next youngster wants to take the leap in the summer.

After positions in the youth teams of Red Bull Salzburg, WAC and Kuchl, Tim Saller ended up with the Grünau regional league in 2020. Under the leadership of goalkeeper coach Amandus Künstner, the Salzburg player developed well, but there was still no getting past regular goalkeeper Alexander Strobl. “We have a very good goalkeeper in Strobl, so it’s not easy for the young challengers. Saller has developed very well,” explains Grünau’s sporting director Helmut Rottensteiner.

Tim Saller convinces in Hartberg

Although the 19-year-old goalkeeper has yet to make a breakthrough in the regional league, professional clubs have repeatedly knocked on the door in the past. Saller recently completed a trial with Hartberg in the Bundesliga and was able to convince the Styrian officials. “He was invited to further units and is determined to assert himself. We had an open conversation with the family and of course we will not put anything in the player’s way,” emphasizes Rottensteiner. If Saller convinces at the next training sessions, then a contract in Styria beckons.

Quiet transfer time in Grünau

The search for a replacement didn’t take long in Grünau. Nino Lesjak, who was trained at Red Bull and the WAC, is coming from the SAK in the summer. “Lesjak was convincing in the trial. We’re getting a young and talented goalkeeper who will form our trio of goalkeepers with Strobl and Valerian Rehrl,” says Rottensteiner, who is still on the lookout for reinforcements. “There won’t be any major changes in the squad like there are at some other clubs. But there will probably be one or two newcomers.”
