Dozens of men, who carried shields and flags, marched through Boston on Saturday, the Boston Police Department reported, in a video it can be seen that they carried the flags with the symbol of the White Nationalist Patriotic Front and the United States flag upside down .
The march drew condemnation from the state’s mayor, Michelle Wu.
“To the white supremacists who ran downtown today: When we march, we don’t hide our faces,” the mayor tweeted. “Your hate is as cowardly as it is disgusting, and it goes once morest everything that Boston stands for.”
It has not been disclosed if there were any arrests in this regard. His route was unknown. The white extremists boarded a three and withdrew from the scene.
For his part, the director of the New England Anti-Defamation League, Robert Trestan, wrote on Twitter that “The Patriot Front marching along the freedom trail on the July 4th holiday weekend is an insult to all who fought for freedom, equality and justice”.
Authorities received a report of regarding 100 people holding shields and at least two different flags walking down Congress Street toward the Old State House and City Hall Plaza, BPD Officer Kim Tavares said.
In June, a group believed to be affiliated with the front was detained following officials said they planned to riot a Gay Pride event in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
In a letter posted on Facebook, City Councilman Ed Flynn lamented the Patriot Front’s presence at Boston events in 2021.
“It is totally disgusting to go back to reading reports and seeing videos on social media regarding dozens of neo-Nazis making yet another brazen public display of their hateful ideology,” Flynn said.
“While all people of good will and decency are angry and extremely disturbed by the increased activity we continue to see from neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups locally, we can no longer say we are surprised at what we continue to see around the world. ”.
