Group E is divesting itself from its household appliances sector. The decision of the Friborg energy company, which involves the closure of six of its nine points of sale, leaves 28 out of 56 full-time equivalent jobs behind.

“The retail sector, and more particularly that of household appliances, are marked by strong competition from large distribution brands,” Group E said on Tuesday. Moreover, it has been “reshaped” in recent years by the rise of online commerce and comparative digital platforms.

This reality results in “a drop in turnover and an erosion of margins”, specifies the press release.

The group will therefore cease the sale of household appliances and related services from December 31, as well as the installation of kitchens from March 31, 2024.

Plan social possible

The company Robert Gasser SA, of which Groupe E is the sole shareholder, as well as the Châtel-St-Denis and Gland (VD) points of sale of the company Groupe E Plus SA, will be taken over by their management team to become independent . The decision will allow business to continue and “has the advantage of preserving 28 jobs”.

Depending on the results of the consultation procedure, the closure of the six stores will involve the elimination of 32 jobs (28 full-time equivalent). In addition, Group E, which is also very present in the canton of Neuchâtel, undertakes to “seek alternative solutions for the employees concerned.

This will include exploring the possibilities of internal reassignment, notes the Granges-Paccot company. If necessary, a social plan will be developed in partnership with the Syna union and the Groupe E Plus personnel commission, “in order to guarantee as smooth a transition as possible”.
