Three postdocs from FAU will be working at the Graduate Center at Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) and supported with projects on digitalization with a focus on artificial intelligence: Dr. Hryhorii Chereda, Dr. Jeanine Kircher-Krath and Dr. Kevin Mayer.

Young researchers on artificial intelligence: excellent minds for the mega-topic of our time

Minister of State Blume: “In this way, we are providing long-term support to particularly talented young AI researchers in developing their own research profile as a basis for a long-term career in science. Because the fact is: Artificial intelligence will significantly change our lives in many areas and we want to help shape this process in accordance with our values.”

AI suggests personalized cancer therapies

Dr. Hryhorii Chereda, who will soon be a junior professor for Biomedical Network Science, is analyzing the genetic and clinical data of cancer patients in his project in order to improve the understanding of cancer biology and support personalized medical decisions. Chereda will use cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence methods to analyze the data. One of the main goals of the research project is to advance the development of truly individualized medicine by providing patient-specific biomarkers so that individual treatment options can be suggested.

AI develops sustainable business models

Dr. Jeanine Kircher-Krath from the junior professorship for business informatics, especially gamification, is researching how humans and artificial intelligence can jointly develop sustainable business models. In doing so, she focuses on psychological, ethical and technological perspectives of these so-called co-creative processes. She is investigating how co-creativity processes can be supported or redesigned through motivational elements. This should enable humans and artificial intelligence to work together in genuine creative partnerships in the future and drive innovation processes forward in order to solve social challenges.

AI secures digital traces in crime solving

Dr. Kevin Mayer from the Chair of IT Security Infrastructures is investigating how artificial intelligence (AI) can help evaluate large amounts of digital traces in digital forensic investigations. He is examining what role AI can play and how different AI technologies influence traceability, transparency and interpretability, which are critical for digital forensic investigations. To this end, criteria are defined, evaluated and AI models developed to measure this influence. The aim is to enable fair and transparent use of AI in investigations.

From January 2025, researchers who are at the beginning of their academic careers will be admitted to the Graduate Center at the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation, an institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. The funding is intended for a period of up to four years. It includes personnel resources for the postdocs, research funds and support for networking and further qualification in the field of digitalization. The research talents and their applied projects were recommended for funding by a non-Bavarian expert commission.

The aim of the funding line is to support particularly qualified young scientists in developing a research profile from the first or second year after their doctorate and thus qualify them to remain in science.
