A few hundred members and supporters of Groen gathered on Saturday in Saint-Nicolas for this event intended to launch the electoral campaign. Co-presidents Nadia Naji and Jeremie Vaneeckhout presented the 12 priorities of the Flemish Greens. These were divided into three themes: fair climate policy, quality and affordable healthcare and fair opportunities for all.

According to Nadia Naji, the other parties have “completely abandoned the fight once morest climate change” and the climate “is no longer on the agenda except with Groen”. Environmentalists have calculated that more than 20 billion euros are spent each year on subsidies for fossil fuels. However, it would take “only 1.5 million euros to raise all allowances and pensions above the poverty line”, estimates the co-president of Groen.
The environmentalist party thus advocates a higher contribution from the “very rich”. “Those with a net capital of 2.5 million euros or more, who represent the richest 1% in Belgium, can contribute a little more,” said Vaneeckhout.
Groen offers, among other things, better and cheaper public transport, free education for every child, more birth and parental leave, as well as a reduction in healthcare waiting lists.
