Grödig: Bear sighted by police patrols near the recycling center

Two bear sightings were reported to the state of Salzburg on Tuesday. This is said to have existed in the Untersberg area and the surrounding area.

The first reported sighting was several days ago, on Wednesday May 10th. Hubert Stock, the bear commissioner for the state of Salzburg, told the SN on Tuesday followingnoon: “Unfortunately, this sighting was only reported to me today by chance. We then asked and it was also confirmed by the police. A patrol saw the bear last week seen near the recycling center in Grödig.”

According to Stock, that would also be quite plausible. The waste in the recycling yards sometimes contains leftover food, which attracts animals. Stock: “And that also fits together with the bear photo from a wildlife camera recently in the Berchtesgadener Land.” The Grödig waste collection center is located at the foot of the Untersberg on the edge of a forest.

The next reported sighting was on Monday night in the municipality of Großgmain at the foot of the Untersberg. Stock: “That might mean that the bear has already migrated back to Bavaria.”

A search for bear tracks by the hunters was unsuccessful. However, the frequent and heavy rains of the past few days would have quickly washed away any traces. State huntsman master Max Mayr-Melnhof had also gone in search of clues, following all it was his territory.

For the time being, there is only one secure trail from the Glemmtal, where a bear left paw prints in a snow field at the end of the valley. Days later there was a message from Fusch. Hikers claim to have seen a bear. However, there are no traces or photos of the incident.
