‘Grieving the death of that child’; Rajasthan Congress MLA Resigns due to Dalit student’s death | Death of Dalit Boy

Jaipur: Rajasthan MLA resigns over Dalit student’s death after being beaten up by teacher Panachand Meghwal, Congress MLA from Atru constituency, has resigned. The resignation was handed over to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The MLA said that he was deeply saddened by the incident. He said that even after 75 years of independence, Dalits continue to be attacked.

“It pains me that Dalits are being exploited more than 75 years after independence. Even today the Dalit community has to fight for their basic rights. I am deeply saddened by the death of an innocent child in Jalore. I am unable to stop this oppression, so I am resigning as MLA.’- Panachand Meghwal said in his resignation letter to the Chief Minister. He also said that he will fight for justice for the family of the deceased child.

Indrakumar Meghwal (9), a student of a private school in Surana village of Jalore district, died after being brutally beaten up by the teacher for allegedly touching a container of drinking water for upper caste students in the school. Teacher Chail Singh (40) was arrested on charges of murder. The teacher beat the boy on 20th of last month. The boy was beaten on the face and ears and became unconscious. After a week of treatment in a hospital in Udaipur, he was taken to Ahmedabad. He died on Sunday while undergoing treatment there.
