On the night of Sunday to Monday June 5, the cat Pablo goes for a walk around his owner’s home in Estevenens (FR). The next morning, at 6 a.m., the latter discovered him injured. The animal refuses to be touched. But his owner manages to take him to the vet anyway, thinking that his 5-year-old cat has been hit by a car.

First observation: the animal has a broken leg. But alas, there are only two possible options: either euthanize him or take him to the Tierspital in Bern to have X-rays taken. Its owners did not hesitate for a second and left for Bern. The radio will give a stunning result: Pablo was shot. “The bullet had entered in such a way as to make little blood, I had not seen the impact” confides its owner to us. The bullet, of small caliber, broke the leg and ended up in the abdomen.

A clot has formed

The veterinarians explain that it is impossible to save the leg but that it is necessary to operate to remove the ball and the debris. The operation is going quite well, part of the spleen has been removed as well as 40 cm of intestine. Pablo had lost a lot of blood, so he was given a drip. Alas, he never woke up: a blood clot formed and prevented proper oxygenation of the brain. His heart was still beating, but the cat was brain dead. At 9 p.m., Pablo left.

Its owner went to file a complaint with the Romont police. The following Thursday, people told her they heard gunshots once more near her home. “I am very afraid of what can happen to my other cats or worse, to my child! this lady tells us. I no longer feel safe at home, it’s not normal. In addition to being reassured, she would like the culprit to be found, because the costs of treatment in Bern will amount to several thousand francs. But she says she has few illusions,

Contacted, the Friborg cantonal police confirm that the investigation is underway and that, for the moment according to their knowledge, this is an isolated act.
