The prosecutor previously asked the court to sentence Grevcova to 200 hours of community service, as well as a fine of 6,200 euros.
Within ten days following the announcement of the abbreviated verdict, both the prosecutor and Grevcova, together with her defense attorney, will have the opportunity to request the drawing up of the full verdict, which can later be appealed in the Riga Regional Court.
After announcing the verdict, the prosecutor told the journalists that the sentence was lower than what the prosecutor’s office had asked for, so following reading the full verdict, the prosecutor’s office will decide on filing a protest. On the other hand, Grevcova assured the journalists that the verdict will be appealed.
At the hearing, Grevtsova herself asked the court to acquit her, claiming that her guilt was not proven during the trial. She also emphasizes that the CVK data was changed for several members of her party and the prosecutor was also informed regarding it, but he did not take the names of the accused into account.
The prosecutor stated in the court debates that Grevcova was aware that her completed questionnaire would be submitted to the CVK, and there is no direct evidence that Grevcova had submitted true information regarding her education and work experience to her party members and that the error appeared in the CVK when the data was entered incorrectly.
Also, Grevcova has signed the CVK application with her “erroneous” data, so it would be absurd to exonerate Grevcova only because she might not have read the CVK questionnaire.
The commission of such a criminal offense can be punished by temporary deprivation of liberty from 15 days to three months, community service from 40 to 280 hours, or a fine of up to 100 of the minimum monthly salary established in Latvia.
Previously, Grevtsova’s defender asked to add some documents to the case file. One document is related to CVK’s answer of last October 26 of the party “Stability!” to chairman Aleksej Roslikov, in which the CVK refused the opportunity to correct the data entered in Grevcova’s CVK questionnaire.
Also, a printout of Grevtsova’s e-mail, in which she had sent the completed CVK questionnaire, was added to the file. According to Grevtsova, it was done on July 1. The e-mail sent stated that Grevcova’s last place of work was SIA “Dolo”, where she worked as an assistant worker.
In the education section, it was indicated that Grevcova received her secondary education at Rekava High School in 2008.
Taking into account that Grevcova had previously refused to express her opinion on the accusation, a decision was made to transfer the case to the general procedure, the LETA agency was previously acknowledged by the prosecutor’s office.
At the same time, the provision of a reasonable time frame for the completion of criminal proceedings once morest a public official in a position of responsibility is an advantage over other cases.
Despite the accusation, Grevcova will now be able to continue performing her duties as a member of the Saeima. The Roll of Order of the Saeima states that a deputy who has been convicted of a criminal offense shall be considered excluded from the composition of the Saeima from the day the conviction comes into force. There are three instance courts in Latvia.
On October 7 of last year, the State Police started criminal proceedings under Article 272 of the Criminal Law in connection with the allegedly knowingly providing false information by the MP to the Central Committee. By carrying out the necessary investigative steps in the criminal process and obtaining a sufficient set of evidence, on October 17 the criminal process was transferred to the prosecutor’s office in an accelerated procedure for the initiation of criminal prosecution once morest one person.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that Grevcova, as a candidate for the 14th Saeima election, submitted information regarding herself to the CVK, including information in the “Workplace and positions held” section, as well as “Education”. The person confirmed the truthfulness of this information in the prepared documents with his signature, following which the signed documents were handed over to the person who submitted them to the CVK on July 13.
It has already been reported that the party “Stability!” the deputy lied regarding her workplace, deliberately submitting false information regarding it to the CVK before the elections, reported “TV3 Ziņas”.
In addition, Grevcova CVK also provided false information regarding her education at the Latvian Sports Pedagogy Academy (LSPA), LSPA public relations and communication manager Ilze ķe-Vīksne confirmed to LETA agency.
CVK Grevcova has provided information that in 2013 she obtained her higher education in the specialty of pedagogue of LSPA. However, Āķe-Vīksne, answering the question regarding the veracity of this information, stated that such information is not available in the LSPA archive.
A person with such a name cannot be found in the LSPA Student Information System, which has been operating since 2004. Likewise, Grevcova is not recorded either in the list of graduates or in the list of students, emphasized the representative of the academy.
Grevcova gained wider recognition through her activity on the social site “TikTok”.
The “Stability” party won 11 mandates in the 14th Saeima elections.
