“(Leaders) say they are doing something to solve the problem when they are just doing the opposite,” said the 19-year-old Swede.
“They say they are doing everything for the climate, but at the same time they are opening new coal-fired power stations and installing new pipelines.”
“We are approaching the bottom,” warned Greta Thunberg once more on the main festival podium, where ex-Beatle Paul McCartney was to perform a little later. “Make sure you don’t get an extra inch closer to the bottom,” she added.
For her, it is young people who must make a difference in the face of the climate emergency. “The generations that preceded us have failed. But now you and I have the historic responsibility to reverse the course of things,” she told the crowd of festival-goers.
