About 50 activists block the Riksdag house. Heavily armed police have been called in.
“Climate justice now”, reads one of the banners the activists are holding up. They sit on the steps of the Riksdag house and block the entrance. Most of them are young people.
Greta Thunberg is one of the people participating.
– This action is a resistance to the continuation of this deadly, unjust system. The richest consume enormous amounts of resources, at the expense of large parts of the world’s population not even having their needs met. The world is changing fast, it is inevitable. It is our democratic obligation to be involved in shaping the direction that change should take. We invite everyone who can to join us, she says in a press release.
Police with reinforcement weapons have been called in. They have not made a decision regarding whether or not to remove the activists.
– The assessment is that they do not directly interfere with the activities of the Riksdag and even if the gathering is not authorized, they have rights protected by the constitution, so they are allowed to use them, says police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl to The Express.
