Health care workers were unknowingly invited to a Liberal concert on May 1 in the riding of Verdun.
These employees had won tickets to a Gregory Charles show as a thank you for their efforts during the pandemic.
In the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs church, where the event took place, leaflets praising the achievements of MP Melançon had been scattered everywhere.
The event was organized by the parish (of the church), with financial assistance from the constituency office of Isabelle Melançon.
“The flyer… It wasn’t the Liberal Party of Quebec, it was the National Assembly of Quebec. It is the member for Verdun who expresses, inside the leaflet, the tour, which I have just explained to you, of the CLSCs, the CHSLDs, the various residences for the elderly, ”defended Isabelle Melançon. “We asked the National Assembly, there, as we do with our [budget] discretionary, then we went. We did each of the steps correctly.”
Confusion
Nevertheless, the event created some confusion among some participants who had won tickets.
“When we noticed that it was a political event, we thought regarding leaving. Several people wondered what they were doing there”, told our Investigation Office a person who was in the audience and who requested anonymity.
The CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal affirms that it was very clearly mentioned to the executives that Isabelle Melançon was organizing this event. However, this information was not communicated to some employees.
“Honestly, if there is one thing that I would do differently, no doubt, it would be to check with the CIUSSS that the correct document was sent. But that, you understand that it is out of my control, ”said Ms. Melançon in a press scrum on Tuesday morning.
