INDONESIAN badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is preparing to face the first match of the 2024 Hong Kong Open tournament. The BWF Super 500 level tournament will be held from 10 to 15 September at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
Gregoria, who has been absent since the last Olympics, feels nervous about returning to compete. Having been sick and having a good result in the last tournament are the reasons for her nervousness.
“Honestly, I feel a bit nervous and tense returning to the tournament. It’s definitely not easy to return to the game after a month of absence, having had chicken pox and the flu as well,” said Gregoria in her statement, Monday (9/9).
“In addition, you could say that in the last tournament my results were quite good so there is a lot of hope that I can maintain my performance. But I don’t want to make it a burden, I will make it a motivation,” he added.
When asked about the field conditions, Gregoria said the wind was quite strong. Therefore, she had to adapt more quickly. “The field is quite windy but because I have played here several times, I have to be able to adjust to it. Hopefully, the first match can be better than today’s training,” said Gregoria.
Gregoria will be accompanied by Putri Kusuma Wardani and Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi. Meanwhile, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, who was initially registered, had to withdraw due to a left leg injury.

Meanwhile, men’s singles representative Anthony Sinisuka Ginting admitted that his condition had improved after withdrawing from the 2024 Japan Open due to problems with his left ankle.

“My condition is better compared to when I was in Japan. In terms of preparation, it’s also okay. The field conditions are not much different from previous years. The task now is to prepare the right way to play in conditions like this,” said Ginting.
