Does Digitec Galaxus casually destroy low-value items returned to it by customers? This is the question that emerges when reading a study published this Tuesday by Greenpeace. Contacted, the Swiss number one in e-commerce, which belongs to Migros, defends itself by claiming to do its utmost to give new life to the items returned by its customers.
The environmental NGO’s investigation began following a discussion with a Digitec Galaxus staff member. Greenpeace Switzerland has learned that household appliances or electronics worth less than 50 francs are generally not checked and therefore not resold. To find out, the association ordered 25 products whose price was less than 120 francs. As Greenpeace explains, these products were equipped with tracers and returned. First verdict: six of the returned products were destroyed following their return. “We assume that Digitec Galaxus did not try to resell them or give them to an external organization for reuse,” says Greenpeace.
