2023-12-19 13:07:51

Alex Honnold is leading a six-week expedition to eastern Greenland to make the first ascent of one of the highest unclimbed rock faces in the world. But this trip represents much more than a sporting challenge. With the help of glaciologist Heidi Sevestre, Alex and his team are studying the impact of climate change on the glaciers, ice caps and fjords of this remote part of the Arctic.

Paris, December 19, 2023 – The climber Alex Honnold (“FREE SOLO”) embarks on an epic quest for unclimbed walls in one of the most remote corners of Greenland, a territory on the front lines of the climate crisis. Alex Honnold has always dreamed of exploring Greenland and its peaks. Today he attempts, along with world-famous mountaineers Hazel Findlay et Mikey Schaefer, to reach the summit of Ingmikortilaq, an Arctic sea cliff that no one has ever climbed that rises out of the frozen wilderness almost 300 meters higher than Free Solo’s El Capitan. For long-time climate activist Alex Honnold, this expedition is more than just a climb: it’s a chance to see first-hand the impact of climate change on a vitally important wilderness for the future of the planet. With the help of Dr. Heidi SevestreFrench glaciologist working for the Greenlandic Guide’s Arctic monitoring and assessment program Adam Kjeldsen and the famous adventurer Aldo Kane, the team is using special radar to measure the depth and density of a rarely studied section of the Greenland ice sheet in real time. “ Greenland Expedition with Alex Honnold » is a three-part scientific expedition, led by one of the world’s greatest mountaineers in pursuit of his life’s dream.
