Lupfig, Switzerland (ots) – The waste heat from the data centers is used by Energie 360° for energy network solutions. The construction of the heating center and the district heating network in Dielsdorf is already underway.
Green, the leading Swiss data center provider, today announces the next stage on campus. In Dielsdorf, construction has started on the data centers N and O on the Zurich Metro campus. The two new high-performance data centers offer space for around 4,000 server racks for up to 160,000 IT systems on an area of 11,600 m2.
The demand is great
With the Metro Campus Zurich, Green is increasing data center capacity by 35 megawatts for operating customer systems. The campus in Dielsdorf covers an area of 46,000 m2 and consists of powerful and energy-efficient data centers as well as a business park with an office building. The first data center was completed in December 2022. The modern office building is currently under construction and will be ready for occupancy in summer 2024. Expansion phase three with the implementation of the data centers N and O starts earlier than planned because the demand for secure and high-performance data centers is increasing sharply.
Data growth and digitalization as drivers
Data growth is increasing and at the same time the need for computing power is increasing. Fewer and fewer companies are using their own server rooms or data centers; High investments in modernization and sustainability speak once morest this. Instead, they are moving their systems to secure, more efficient and sustainable data centers and to the cloud. Since Green works as a data center provider for companies as well as for leading cloud providers, demand is increasing particularly strongly. “Our growth reflects the rapid advance in technology and digitalization,” explains Roger Süess, CEO of Green, and adds: “Modern data centers are a prerequisite for this transformation to be realized at a high speed, safely and sustainably in Switzerland.”
Using waste heat from the data center reduces CO2 emissions
The two new data centers will also be implemented with waste heat extraction so that the waste heat can be used in the surrounding communities for CO2-neutral heating. Green is investing several million in waste heat extraction and is cooperating with Energie 360°, which is planning and implementing several district heating network projects in the region. Thanks to the decoupling, the Datacenter M can supply up to 3,500 households as well as industry and commerce. The first district heating center will be built on the Metro Campus area in 2024 and will serve to supply up to 3,500 households in Dielsdorf. The waste heat from the two new data centers can be used to supply additional households and businesses with district heating in the region. “By using waste heat and many other measures, we contribute to the circular economy and support the energy transition. It is clear to us that future-oriented digitalization can only be achieved with sustainable data centers,” explains Roger Süess.
