The police arrested a teenage fan who assaulted a Korean fan who visited the home stadium of Olympiacos, a Greek professional football team, belonging to Hwang Ui-jo (30) and Hwang In-beom (26).

Greek media ‘Katimerini’ reported on the 17th (local time) that “a 19-year-old local man, one of the suspects in the assault on a Korean fan, has been arrested by the police.”

The suspect is currently under investigation, and investigations into the remaining personnel involved in the assault are ongoing.

The assault occurred before the 2022-23 season UEFA Europa League match between Olympiacos and Freiburg (Germany) held at Karaiskaki Stadium in Greece on the 16th.

At that time, a Korean YouTuber who visited the stadium to cheer for Hwang Ui-jo, Hwang In-beom, and Jung Woo-young (Freiburg) was assaulted and ridiculed by some hooligans from Olympiacos, and suffered damage such as having their cell phone stolen. This news quickly spread through YouTube and the community, causing a lot of controversy.

The Korean fan suffered a bruise on his forehead and a slight tear in the upper part of his eye.

When the incident became known, the Olympiacos club said, “A Korean fan who was assaulted close to the stadium is a registered member of our club. Olympiacos will provide a season ticket that allows him to watch a home game whenever he wants.” apologized

Hwang Ui-jo and Hwang In-beom, who play for Olympiacos, also expressed their opposition to the assault through SNS.

Hwang Ui-jo posted an apology to Olympiacos, and Hwang In-beom also emphasized, “There should never be any violence for any reason.”
