The participation of the dance group of the Lyceum of the Greek Women of Patras in the International Folklore Festival “FOLKCINFÃES 2024”, organized in the municipality of Cinfães, in the northern region of Viseu, Portugal, from August 2 to 11, 2024, with the participation of recognized dance groups from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Egypt and Mexico. The Festival has been organized by the organization “Grupo Folclórico de Cantas e Cramóis de Pias” since 2015 with the collaboration of local organizations and has been recognized as an International Cioff Festival since 2018.
After the official reception of the participants at the Town Hall of Cinfães (2/8/2024) our dance group participated in the Gala dances organized as part of the Festival in the municipalities of the wider region and in particular in Cinfães (3/8/2024,10/8 /2024), in the Fornelos area of the Municipality of Cinfães (4/8/2024), in the Tarouquela area of the Municipality of Cinfães (5/8/2024), in the Municipality of Tabuaço (6/8/2024), in the Municipality of Armamar (8/8 /2024), in the Municipality of Tarouca (9/8/2024) and in the Oliveira area of the Municipality of Cinfães (11/8/2024).
As part of the performances, the dance team of the Greek High School of Patras presented traditional dances from Macedonia, Crete, Corfu, the island of Greece and Thessaly, wearing the traditional costumes of each region that our remarkable Costume Store has, as well as folk dances. In all their performances, our dancers impressed us with their dancing ethos and style, their perfect dance performance, their excellent dressing and their enthusiasm, drawing the warm applause of the audience, the other participants and the organizers. The visit and performance of the Greek High School of Patras in a nursing home of Cinfaes (5/8/2024) was extremely moving, as the applause, the warmth of the elderly and the joy we offered made this performance a special experience for everyone!
An important parameter of the multi-day trip was also the recreational activities, such as the visits to important wineries and exhibition spaces in the wider region, the day trip to the beautiful city of Porto and the daily improvised feasts that were set up together with the groups from the other countries. Folk music and dance united the participants and paved the way for friendship and cross-cultural communication.
Warm thanks to the Ephorate of National Dances for the overall coordination and supervision of this important participation, to the teacher Mr. Stamopoulos Vassilis for the efficient preparation of the dance team, to the Ephorate of National Costumes for the perfect dressing of the teams, to our dancers for their effort and their high-level presence throughout the mission for successful representation! We wish our efforts to be successful and for future equally worthy and interesting entries.
