One of the most favorite topics of any commencement ceremony – and not without reason – are the appearances of the Olympic missions, and the four-hour show in Paris was not lacking in clothing choices that caused discussion. Several countries wanted to create a sensation before their athletes even entered the arenas, and most succeeded with greater or lesser success.
Our country, which appeared, as always, first at the opening ceremony, was presented in uniforms of the Greek sportswear company 4F. Our athletes wore clothes in a simple line and the dominant colors were blue and very light beige. And although at Athens Fashion Week, where the appearances of Greek athletes were presented, the comments were particularly warm, yet they did not have the expected success.
THE Nikos Apostolopoulos and Vasilios Kostetsoswith “fire” posts on social media, were placed for the uniforms of the Greek athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games.
“To have the superstar of superstars, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and to dress him and the Hellenic Mission “like this”… My issue is not!!! And Clearly now I DON’T care nor do I have any “heartburn”… because I DID NOT design them! Now known the game of assignment I OBSTRUCTED it!… BUT!!!! But it saddens me because I am a Greek who once loved the aesthetics of our Ancient Ancestors and I am disgusted with the “entanglement of today’s assignments”! Which every time after a holiday… IT IS FORGOTTEN! After each one has gone astray in terms of design and aesthetics! Notice the beige brown button…. Are you going to tell me that???? Yes, that too!” wrote, among others, Vasilios Kostetsos.
Nikos Apostolopoulos called the costumes, “monsters”:
“Whoever designed these hideous jackets had better cover them with potato sacks!!!” he wrote in the post with the photo of Giannis Antetokounmpo holding up the Greek flag together with Antigoni Drisbiotis.
“PtD” contacted the paternal fashion designer Marianiki Bania, who stated the following: Watching the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris I feel disappointed about the uniforms of the Greek athletes. Speaking as a Greek designer but also as a citizen of this country. In all the sites that write about the most beautiful Olympic Uniforms, Greece is nowhere and not without reason. It is not possible for a country like our Greece with so much history to be represented by such indifferent everyday clothes. I am referring to their sloppiness, their lack of imagination and ideas. We do not deserve such an image and it certainly does not represent us. Where did the inspiration, the passion, the passion for creation go? As our ancestors taught us in ancient times. I want the best for my country and I will not settle for anything less.”
